Indecisive? We’ve decided your Halloween watch-list for you!

Look no further, your Halloween watch-list is here!
Fall is coming, and the leaves might not be turning orange and purple but campus is! We’re back for spooky season, and we’ve picked out the perfect recommendations for a halloween binge night. So, gather your friends, cosy up and hit play, because what’s better than a mix of slice-of-life and gut-wrenching gore to spend the evening?
1. How to Keep a Mummy (9/10)
If you just want something light to watch, this is the cutest slice-of-life monster you will EVER come across! Watch Mii-kun, a mummy, get severely attached to Sora-kun, a boy who’s grown used to youkai, and how their heartwarming relationship blooms. From their adorably domestic life to the irresistible animation (I could cry), this anime is just the perfect light-hearted comedy to spend your evening! (personal plans peeking-through)
2. Another (8.9 /10)
Just writing about this show makes me want to re-watch it. Welcome to the anime version of Final Destination! If you’re a horror beginner, this anime is THE one for you. Sakakibara is the new kid in a small town, and a sense of unease follows him through his interactions with its residents. His new classmates are cheerful students, and he has a sweet homeroom teacher; everything would have been normal… but then it isn’t. Who’s the girl with the eye-patch? Why does no one else see her? Is he hallucinating or are his classmates lying to him? Watch to find out!
3. Spirited away (10/10)
With the 30+ awards it’s won, including an oscar, we clearly aren’t the only ones who think this movie is PHENOMENAL. In this industry saturated with talented works, Miyazaki stands out at the top as one of the best-known directors, whose works are soul touching. While watching Ghibli is honestly a culture of its own, Spirited away is a classic, unpacking newer themes every time you watch it. You watch as Chihiro navigates a fantastical and otherworldly bathhouse to rescue her parents, encountering all forms of mysterious and beasts along the way. And can we just add, the art is gorgeous. A personal recommendation for your Halloween palette!
4. Howl’s moving castle (11/10) (I’m allowed to do that, artistic freedom)
Just look at them. Don’t you already feel like watching it? Another Ghibli film that surpasses any other. The characters draw you in, and it’s an absolute rollercoaster of emotions watching them fight to try and break Sophie’s curse. With witches and wizards, potions and magic, and a daring love story, follow Sophie and Howl on their adventure, with some of, again, the best animation and ingenious character design that exists.
5. Parasyte: The maxim (9/10)
You might have already guessed from the knife conjoined to his thumb, and how this is a halloween compilation, but this anime is pretty gory. A masterpiece of a horror/sci-fi anime, with incredibly detailed (and graphic) animation, Parasyte is about your average high-schooler, Shinichi, stuck in Parasyte apocalypse, who’s able to stop the creature from killing him and traps it in his right hand. We watch the moral dilemma clashing with the protagonist’s sense of justice, and very satisfying animation playing into the picture. A must-watch slasher, and I’m sure you’ll find some cosplay ideas from here (they all involve split-open heads, I think).
